Welcome to Northfield Academy

A Liberal Arts Middle and High School in Wichita, Kansas

At Northfield Academy students participate in a community dedicated to learning from the wisdom of the ancients, engaging in The Great Conversation

“Nascantur in admiratione” or "Let them be born in wonder" is the perennial motto of Northfield Academy. Here, minds wonder about our world, forging a lasting connection with what is True, Good, and Beautiful.

We believe in providing a well-rounded, classical liberal arts education to every student by upholding the traditions of classical education while preparing students for the demands of the 21st century. Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed creating a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and deep appreciation for the arts, sciences, and humanities. Our campus culture is aimed at emphasizing the development of character and inter-personal relationships in everything we do.

To hear more about how Northfield focuses on community and classical education, you can listen to Mrs. Hein's interview on the Wise and Otherwise podcast.

Low-Tech Learning

In order to prioritize interpersonal relationships and ponder great ideas, Northfield Academy has a no-phone policy during school hours. We also honor the history of great thinkers from the past by creating a learning environment free from modern distractions, requiring students to complete their coursework without computers except when necessary.

Access to Friends University

Our location, just a block from Friends University, means our students have unparalleled access to college classes. Many of our 11th and 12th grade students spend their morning hours taking classes at Friends. It is possible to graduate from Northfield with a full year of college credits!

Deep-dive classes

While math, language, and composition run all year, we focus on just two "deep-dive" courses each month, allowing class time to be longer and more relaxed. This means students can engage more fully with the material, while reducing their total work load.

Jamie Arnold- mother of two Northfield graduates

"It's rare in life that anything exceeds your expectations, but the experience at Northfield has done just that for my sons. They matured more in their first month of attendance than I anticipated would occur in the entire year due to being engaged in thoughtful and real conversations about the Great Books and deep questions in life."
